The Yobe State Government has formalized contracts for the repair and asphalt overlay of the Kaliyari–Bayamari and Bayamari–Geidam roads, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening road infrastructure and stimulating economic activities across the state.

The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Umaru Wakili who represented the state government at the signing ceremony explained that the project, which was initially a federal road, has been segmented into three sections to enhance effective supervision and fast-track completion.

Engr. Wakili disclosed that the 57-kilometre Kaliyari–Bayamari section has been awarded to EEC International Limited, while the 52-kilometre Bayamari–Geidam section was awarded to Elegance Construction Nigeria Limited.

He further revealed that the Kalallawa–Kaliyari segment, constituting the third section of the project, is currently undergoing advanced negotiations with the Federal Government for revocation from the existing contractor due to unsatisfactory performance.

The commissioner stated that the state government intends to re-award the section to a more competent firm to guarantee timely and quality execution.

Engr. Wakili further said the completion of the road corridor will greatly enhance mobility, facilitate trade, and open up economic opportunities, particularly in the northern axis of the state.

He also announced that the Ministry of Works is preparing to award additional road projects, including Bukarti–Dumbol, Buni Gari–Tetteba, Nangere–Kayeri, Mashio–Alagarno, and Kumaganam–Karasuwa roads. Township road construction is also planned for Potiskum, Gashua, Geidam, Nguru, and other urban centres.

The commissioner stated that all the 17 Local Government Areas of the state have been equitably considered in the distribution of road projects, in line with the government’s inclusive development policy.

He urged contractors to adhere strictly to project specifications and timelines to ensure value for money and durable infrastructure.

Responding on behalf of the construction companies, the General Manager of Elegance Construction Nigeria Limited, Adamu Aliyu Sallau, assured the state government of their readiness to deliver high-quality work in line with contractual requirements.
