Wike Vows To Sack Officials Over Refuse Dumps

Published:

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to officials responsible for sanitation in the Satellite Towns, stating that he would not hesitate to terminate the appointments of those found negligent in their duties.

The minister issued the warning during an extensive inspection tour of ongoing road projects across the FCT, stressing that development cannot be compromised by operational failures.

His reaction followed questions from journalists regarding observed refuse dumps along the newly reconstructed Orozo-Karshi Road.

“If by Monday I see continued negligence or refusal to comply with performance standards, I will not hesitate to terminate the appointment of those responsible.

“Accountability is central to what we are doing. We will not tolerate practices that delay progress,” he said.

Earlier, while addressing journalists on the rationale behind the flurry of construction activities, the minister stated that the projects were being executed under the directive of President Bola Tinubu to develop a strategic and resilient road network across the FCT, aligning with the President’s Renewed Hope agenda.

Wike revealed that his administration had shifted focus beyond the Abuja City Centre to key Satellite Towns.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done by Nigerian contractor, Atufa Construction, in Karshi, where he said every road has been reconstructed.

“The contract was rescinded and re-awarded to SCC Construction Company, and they have begun work in earnest,” the minister explained.

Another critical project inspected was the Bwari-Kubwa Road, which Wike described as a critical structural development expected to boost economic activity in the communities along the corridor.
