The United States Department of State has announced the temporary suspension of activities at the Embassy of the United States, Kuwait City due to rising security concerns linked to growing tensions in the region.
In a statement released on Thursday, the department said the move forms part of precautionary measures aimed at protecting American diplomatic staff and citizens abroad.
Authorities noted that no member of the embassy personnel had been injured in connection with the security concerns.
The department reiterated that the protection of U.S. citizens overseas remains its foremost responsibility.
Officials also confirmed that the travel advisory for Kuwait remains at Level 3 – Reconsider Travel, advising American nationals to closely monitor updated security information and guidance published on the department’s official travel platform.
U.S. citizens currently in Kuwait were advised to leave the country if they can do so safely through commercial flights or other available transportation options.
Those who are unable to depart immediately were urged to stay indoors and strictly adhere to security instructions issued by local authorities.
The State Department further stated that Americans in need of urgent assistance, including consular services or information regarding departure arrangements, may contact the Bureau of Consular Affairs through its 24-hour emergency communication channels.
U.S. nationals living or travelling abroad were encouraged to enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, STEP, a service that provides security alerts and enables embassies to communicate directly with citizens during emergencies.
Officials said further information would be released as developments unfold.
