Social media critic, Vincent Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan has accused the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government of abandoning
Nigerian students studying in Morocco under a Federal Government scholarship scheme, exposing them to hardship, homelessness, and medical neglect.
VDM who is currently in the North African country to lend support to the Super Eagles at the ongoing African Cup of Nations, took time out to interact with the Nigerian scholars where they lamented what they have been passing through.
In the video he shared on several social media platforms on Tuesday, VeryDarkMan was seen interacting with several stranded Nigerian students in Morocco who said they had been left without financial support for years despite being beneficiaries of a Nigerian government scholarship.
While speaking in the video, VDM said: “President Tinubu, your regime and cabinet do not need to be governing Nigeria anymore because everything about your government is based on lies and fraud.

“These are Nigerians in Morocco who were given scholarships by the Nigerian government, yet have been abandoned and left stranded. Now they’re suffering and jobless.”
Some of the students who spoke on their plight, said they have been made to undergo severe hardship as they are not allowed to work to fend for themselves which was part of the agreement that was reached between the two governments.
One of the victims who said he is a final-year medical student at a Moroccan university, narrated how he had spent several years in the country studying medicine after being awarded a federal scholarship, only to be abandoned alongside other beneficiaries.
“I am in my final year studying medicine, but we have been abandoned. They gave us scholarships to become doctors and return to Nigeria to strengthen the healthcare system, but they left us here.”
One student, seen using crutches, recounted how desperation forced him to secretly seek work in violation of the agreement.
“I came to Morocco healthy. Because I had no means of survival, I had to find something to do. On my way back from work, I had an accident and broke my thigh bone. I couldn’t pay my hospital bills, and till now I haven’t paid because I don’t have money.”
The students also spoke about the death of a fellow scholar, identified as Bashir Malami, a BEA (Bilateral Education Agreement) scholar of the 2019/2020 academic session who studied Electrical Engineering at École Supérieure de Technologie de Salé.
According to them, Malami suffered from tuberculosis but avoided seeking medical care because he feared hospital bills.
“He kept it to himself because he didn’t have money. The illness kept complicating until he died. Treatment is supposed to be free here in Morocco, but because of lack of money, he didn’t get help in time.”
The students said the Nigerian government had promised them a monthly stipend of $500 and paid for their initial flights to Morocco but however, allege that the scholarship letters were signed on behalf of the Federal Government by the current Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa.
They further claimed that whenever they threatened to speak to the media, officials accused them of trying to disgrace the government.
“We ask ourselves, what is more disgraceful than your landlord evicting you because the government couldn’t pay your rent?” one student asked.
