The White House on Tuesday said President Donald Trump of the United States is considering possible military action to take control of Greenland.
This has increased tensions as Denmark warns such a move could destroy the NATO alliance.
Trump increased his interest in the autonomous Danish territory following the capture of Venezuelan President last Saturday.
According to a statement by the White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, on Tuesday, Trump sees acquiring the mineral-rich self-government Danish territory as a national security priority.
“The president and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilising the US military is always an option at the commander-in-chief’s disposal,” Leavitt said.
