The body of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, departed London on Tuesday morning aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, en route to Daura, Katsina State, where he will be laid to rest. According to iReporter Online, the late statesman’s repatriation is being coordinated by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is leading a top-level federal delegation to oversee all burial logistics and protocol activities
In a formal briefing, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to personally receive Buhari’s remains in Katsina. Upon arrival, a brief but solemn military ceremony will take place at the airport before the convoy proceeds to Daura for the Jana’iza prayer and interment at the former president’s residence.
The federal government, according to iReporter Online, has rolled out full national mourning protocols, which include the opening of condolence registers at all ministries, departments, agencies, embassies, and Nigerian missions abroad. An additional register has also been opened at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
As part of the burial arrangement, 25 federal cabinet members have been instructed to travel to Katsina for the rites and remain in Daura for the Third-Day Islamic prayer scheduled for Wednesday. A special Inter-Ministerial Committee chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has been constituted to coordinate proceedings in partnership with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family.
