Casablanca, Morocco – Nigeria’s highly anticipated Super Falcons, formidable title contenders, arrived in Casablanca, Morocco, on Wednesday night from Lisbon, Portugal. The delegation, consisting of 22 players and team officials, is now set to begin their quest for the 13th Africa Cup of Nations finals. Key players, including China-based forward Folashade Ijamilusi and USA-based Asisat Oshoala, had already made their way to Morocco’s economic capital to join the squad.

The nine-time African champions recently showcased their resilience in a goalless draw against their Portuguese counterparts during a friendly match at Lisbon’s Estádio José Gomes on Monday evening. Standout performances were noted from goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Shukurat Oladipo, and veteran forward Francisca Ordega.

Group Stage Fixtures and Historic Dominance

The Super Falcons will kick off their 13th Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign against Tunisia’s senior women national team. This crucial opening match is scheduled for Sunday, July 6th, at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. Following their opener, Nigeria will face Botswana and Algeria in the remaining group stage matches.

The Super Falcons boast an unparalleled record in the Women Africa Cup of Nations. Since the tournament was launched as the African Women Championship in 1998, they have never failed to reach the semi-finals. Their impressive list of victories includes titles in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018. Even in the years they didn’t clinch the trophy, such as 2008, 2012, and 2022, they consistently made it to the last four, solidifying their status as Africa’s most dominant women’s football team.

With their strong historical performance and recent preparations, the Super Falcons are poised to make a significant impact in the WAFCON 2025 tournament as they eye yet another continental title.
