Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and his wife, Nonye, on Friday, celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary with a solemn Thanksgiving Mass at their country home in Isuofia, Aguata local government area of the State.
The event, which drew family members, friends, top government officials, clergy, and members of the community, was officiated by the Catholic Bishop of the Ekwulọbịa Diocese, His Eminence Peter Cardinal Okpaleke. The Mass featured prayers of gratitude and blessings for the couple’s continued happiness and service.
In his homily, Cardinal Okpaleke urged Christians to depend on God in all circumstances and encouraged young couples to emulate the Soludos’ steadfast love and partnership, which he described as an inspiring example of Christian marriage.
Reflecting on the milestone, Governor Soludo expressed profound gratitude to his wife and to all who joined in the celebration.
“Today marks a special day in our home. Thirty-three years ago, I had the privilege of marrying the love of my life, Nono,” the governor said in a message shared on his official Facebook page. “You are not just my partner; you are my best friend, my confidante and my everything.”
He continued, “As we celebrate this milestone, I am reminded of the countless memories, laughter and tears we’ve shared. Your love and support mean the world to me. Here is to many more years of love, joy and adventure together! Happy 33rd wedding anniversary, my darling Nono. I love you more today than yesterday, but less than tomorrow.”
Soludo also extended appreciation to the people of Anambra and their community for their prayers and support, saying, “This celebration is not just about our marriage; it’s about the community that has supported us every step of the way. We are truly blessed to have such a strong foundation built on love, faith and service.”
In her own statement, Mrs Nonye Soludo, founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, said she was thankful to God for sustaining their union over the years.
“Today, surrounded by friends, loved ones and our six beautiful children, we knelt before God to renew our marriage vows,” she said. “It’s been 33 years since I made the best decision of my life – to do life with this my guy. Thirty-three years, and it feels like we just began. I’m blessed to have you as my best friend, confidant and loyal partner. And if there’s a life after this one, I’ll still do this sweet race with you again and again.”
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Catholic Bishop of the Nnewi Diocese, Most Rev. Jonas-Benson Okoye, commended the couple for their exemplary marriage, describing it as “a testament to God’s grace and the strength that comes from walking together in faith.”
Dignitaries at the event included the deputy governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and his wife; the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa; members of the State Executive Council; and several clergy and community leaders.
