Afrobeats singer Skales has pushed back against claims that Burna Boy once came to his aid with a ₦600,000 cash gift during a difficult period, describing the story as entirely untrue.
The singer said the narrative originated from a fan of Burna Boy on X, formerly Twitter, who he accused of spreading a fabricated story without any basis.
Skales made the clarification while speaking on the Adesope Live show, aired on Saturday, explaining that the rumour bothered him enough to personally confront its source.
According to him, he reached out to the fan, identified as Benny, to ask why he was constantly pushing negative narratives about him online.

“There was a time I had to reach out to a Burna Boy fan on Twitter, I think his name is Benny or something,” Skales said. “I asked him what I had done to him to warrant the hate he exhibits towards me.”
He said the fan falsely claimed that Burna Boy once helped him financially when he was broke, stressing that no such incident ever occurred. “He created a fake news that there was a time that I was broke and Burna Boy helped me with ₦600,000. That never happened,” Skales added.
The singer noted that such misinformation can easily create unnecessary friction between artists, even when none exists.
Skales advised entertainers to be mindful of how fan-driven narratives can spiral online, urging colleagues to address issues directly rather than allowing false stories to gain traction.
