The fight between Seun Kuti and Wizkid displayed on social media, began with the fans of the latter, Wizkid FC saying Ayodele Balogun, Wizkid is greater than the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti who is the father of Seun Kuti, the leader of Egypt 80 band.
Seun Kuti could not take this assertion and rained insults and curses on Wizkid and his fans. This made the award winning star, to go on twitter to make the assertion himself- asking ‘What will Seun Kuti Do if he is indeed greater than Fela?’
This turned the tirade and fight into another level as other musicians and celebs wading into the matter. indeed there is no comparison between Fela Kuti who braved all odds to speak truth to the government of his time, and Wizkid who has marketed Nigerian music to the present world and global music industry.
There is no cause for supremacy as Wizkid also got inspired by the likes of Fela Kuti and did a song with the son of Fela, Femi Kuti to pay tributes to the exploit and relevance of Afrobeat music prompted by Fela.
Someone commended that what both fighters need is emotional intelligence. Also this development has revealed the need for documentation of Nigerian music history. The younger generation needs to know about Fela and not compare Wizkid to the Abami Eda because to the older generation, Wizkid can never be superior to Fela.
Bit to the younger generation who follows Wizkid, nothing must is known about Fela hence, Wizzy is greater. So knowledge is key and Seun Kuti should calm down and not rain curses to Wizkid FC fans and Wizzy because it is all about bragging rights and the social media never forgets.
