Senegal present AFCON trophy before Peru friendly despite CAF verdict

Published:

Senegal on Saturday, presented the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, trophy before their friendly against Peru despite having their title stripped.

The Teranga Lions initially won the AFCON final against Morocco in January.

But 57 days later, CAF announced that its appeal board had declared the Atlas Lions 3-0 winners instead.

A day after that decision was publicised, Senegal confirmed they would appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS.

They have also apparently refused to return the trophy to CAF.

In an act of defiance, not only did they parade the trophy in Paris, they also added a second star to their kit, as they consider themselves the rightful champions.
