Operatives of the Nigerian Army Guards Brigade, FCT Police Command, Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilantes have rescued 20 kidnap victims in joint operations within the Federal Capital Territory.
Elsewhere in Enugu State, troops of the 82 Division Garrison Nigerian Army under ‘Operation Eastern Sanity’ rescued 12 kidnap victims and arrested two suspects at Ette community in Igbo-Eze North local government area at the weekend.
Police in the FCT said between Thursday and Friday, operatives commenced a coordinated search and rescue operation following credible intelligence that kidnappers fleeing security operations in Gauraka Forest, Niger State had crossed into Gidan Dogo and Kweri Forests in Kaduna State with kidnap victims.
Acting on the intelligence, the officer in charge of the anti-kidnapping unit led the combined tactical team into the forest in pursuit of the suspected criminals.
FCT police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the report.
She said the operation led to the rescue of 20 kidnap victims who were abducted from Byazhin District of the FCT as well as Gauraka and Tafa areas of Niger State.

Terrorists’ on Wednesday and Thursday nights attacked Byazhin across, a community in Kubwa and abducted several residents including children and killed a night watcher.
The terrorists had already made contact with the community and demanded ransom before troops’ intervention.
A statement from the acting assistant director army public relations, headquarters, Guards Brigade, Lt. Odunola Olawuyi yesterday said troops during the operation made contact with the terrorists, leading to a firefight in which one of the criminals was killed while others fled with gunshot wounds.
The statement said troops would continue to dominate the general area to forestall further criminal activities.
The Commander, Guards Brigade, Brig. Gen. Adebisi Olusegun Onasanya, commended the troops and collaborating security agencies for their bravery and professionalism during the operation.
He said the Guards Brigade remained resolute and fully committed to safeguarding residents of the Federal Capital Territory and protecting Abuja as the nation’s seat of power.

The statement said troops responded swiftly in conjunction with police operatives, Forest Guards and members of the Neighbourhood Watch advancing to the suspected area where the victims were believed to have been taken.
