Security operatives have repelled attempted attacks by suspected terrorists in parts of Maiduguri and along the Damboa Maiduguri Road.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on March 16, 2026, by the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Kenneth Daso.
According to the police, the incidents followed reports of sporadic gunshots and explosions in some areas, which caused concern among residents.
The command said the situation was linked to attempted infiltrations by suspected members of Boko Haram and ISWAP.
According to the statement, the first attempt occurred around midnight at Ajilari Cross in the Kofa area on the outskirts of Maiduguri, while another attempt was recorded around 1:00 am along the Damboa-Maiduguri Road in Damboa.
Security forces on alert reportedly engaged the attackers in a coordinated response, forcing them to retreat from the areas.
“In a swift and coordinated response, joint security operatives engaged the insurgents and successfully repelled the attacks, forcing the terrorists to retreat,” the statement said.
The statement noted that no casualties were recorded among security personnel or civilians during the operations.
However, the command said the attackers were believed to have suffered casualties, although the exact number has not yet been confirmed.
The commissioner of police in the state assured residents of continued efforts to maintain security.
“The command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property and maintaining peace across the state,” the statement said, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid spreading unverified information.
