The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the killing of the President of Omoku Youth Federation (OYF) in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of the state, Ifeanyi Azuazu, and his civilian security aide, Chigozie Oluwu, with the view of apprehending the perpetrators.
Gunmen suspected to be cultists had on Thursday night opened fire at a popular drinking joint at Omoku, killed Olowu and abducted Azuazu, who was elected OYF President about two months ago.
Azuazu’s headless body was identified and recovered the following day on Friday by personnel of the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) in a forest within the community.
Speaking to newsmen, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said preliminary investigation showed that the killings were cult-related.
LEADERSHIP gathered that Oluwu was shot dead as he attempted to intervene when the gunmen, who were about seven and came with two cars, pointed gun at the OYF President and ordered him into one of the cars
Confirming the recovery of Azuazu’s headless body, OSPAC spokesman, Godnews Nkem, said the corpse was recovered from a forest in Omoku on Friday afternoon, several hours after his abduction.
Nkem advised residents of Omoku to remain calm and allow the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Service (DSS) and other relevant security agencies carry out their investigation with a view to arresting the culprits.
