PRP praises Nigerians’ resilience and courage in New Year message

Published:

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has praised Nigerians for their resilience, courage and steadfastness despite the hardship, insecurity, hunger brought upon the country by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration in the last two years.

In a New Year message signed by the National Chairman of the PRP, Falalu Bello, OFR, the party said ordinary people would have broken down due to what they have been passing through but Nigerians being who they are, have stood firm believing that good tidings will come at the end of the day.

Bello noted that instead of giving up, Nigerians have gone ahead to create avenues to make life a bit more comfortable for themselves, believing that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

“As we step into a new year, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) salutes the resilience, courage, and steadfastness of all Nigerians who continue to endure the harrowing realities wrought by insecurity, poverty, hunger, and mismanagement under the APC-led administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Bello said in the message.

“Despite the myriad of challenges confronting our nation, Nigerians remain unbowed and committed to the pursuit of a better, more just society.

“However, it is disheartening to observe that the current administration persists in implementing policies that further oppress and impoverish our people—most notably, the insistence on the enforcement of new tax laws that have sparked widespread outrage across the country.

“These laws, shrouded in secrecy and allegedly altered at the point of gazetting—despite overwhelming calls from citizens for their suspension—are a clear indication that this government is not citizen-focused. Instead, they appear driven by a selfish agenda designed to serve the interests of a few at the expense of the many.

“These laws are not made for the collective good but to enrich a select few and oppress the ordinary Nigerians who are already struggling to survive.

“Furthermore, the government’s decision to remove fuel subsidies on the very first day of its inauguration, promising that the savings would be channeled into social services, has not materialized. Instead, we witness a surge in borrowing without commensurate investments in social infrastructure, leaving Nigerians to bear the brunt of economic hardship and hardship that continues to deepen.

Bello however, urged Nigerians to resist the proposed tax regime which is supposed to take effect from January 1.

“In the face of these failures, the government’s push to impose oppressive taxes—further taxing the lives of ordinary citizens—must be met with resolute resistance. The PRP calls on all Nigerians to unite and take lawful, peaceful action—including protests and strike actions—to oppose these unjust laws and policies that threaten our collective well-being.

“We emphasize that Nigerians’ power lies in their unity, their voice, and their collective will. We must not be intimidated by the defection of self-centered politicians who prioritize personal gain over patriotism and national interest. Their fleeting allegiances do not outweigh the strength of the Nigerian people when they come together for a common cause.

“As we look forward to the 2027 general elections, we urge Nigerians not to despair but to remain steadfast in the fight to reclaim our country from the clutches of incompetence and greed. The APC government’s tenure must be ended decisively, and a new era of transparency, accountability, and citizen-centered governance must be ushered in.

“Let us stand together—lawfully and peacefully—to chase out this oppressive, non-transparent administration and build a Nigeria that works for all its citizens.”
