Published:

Nigeria’s victorious D’Tigress, the reigning African Champions, received a significant boost to their morale and their futures Monday. In a move praised as a departure from past delays, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has promptly fulfilled its promises to the team.

Players and officials were presented with certificates for National Honours and title documents for houses allocated to them in Abuja.

The presentation took place in Lyon, where the team is competing in the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament.

Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), and Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director General, led the delegation.

Dr. Mrs. Kehinde Ajayi, Director of Information and Public Relations at the NSC, highlighted the government’s swift action, stating it “was a clear departure from the experiences of the past, where Government promises take years and decades before they are frustratingly fulfilled.”

The NSC Chairman emphasized the President’s commitment, adding, “Nigerian sports wouldn’t have pray for a better leader than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu…in a time and season like this.” He also assured the team that promised monetary rewards are in the final stages of disbursement.

NBBF President Engr. Musa Kida, Coach Rena Wakama, and Captain Amy Okonkwo all expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for prioritizing the welfare of Nigerian athletes and setting a new standard for sports development in the country.
