Amazon-MGM Studios sci-fi film Project Hail Mary has recorded a $141 million global opening weekend.
The film, starring Ryan Gosling, grossed $80.6 million in North America.
International markets contributed $60.4 million across multiple territories, with the film performing strongly in countries including the United Kingdom, Mexico and China.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed the project.
The development comes amid ongoing changes within the Hollywood industry, including major studio mergers and shifting production strategies.
The film is based on a novel by Andy Weir and follows a scientist on a mission to save Earth.
