Nigerian skit maker and actor, Ganiyu Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, has alleged that he was assaulted by officers of the Area ‘J’ Division of the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), who allegedly confiscated his mobile phone and stole cash belonging to his brother.
In a video posted on his verified Facebook page, @Ijoba Lande 1, currently circulating on social media on Friday, the entertainer was seen with visible injuries with bleeding around his eyes, while bystanders attempted to clean his face by pouring water on him. The footage also showed him inside a facility that appeared to be a police station, where he seemed to be attempting to lodge a complaint following the alleged assault.
Narrating the incident, Ijoba Lande claimed that the attack occurred just six days after his return to Nigeria from the United Kingdom. He did not, however, say where and how the attack occurred.
According to him, police officers physically assaulted him during the encounter, seized his iPhone 16 Pro Max, and allegedly took $1,200 cash belonging to his unnamed brother.
Ijoba Lande, who is known for his comedy skits and appearances in Yoruba Nollywood productions, recounted his ordeal, which has since generated reactions across social media platforms.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
