The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued two kidnap victims and arrested a suspected kidnapper in separate operations across the state, as part of its ongoing clampdown on kidnapping and related crimes.
In the first incident, which occurred on February 3, 2026, at about 3:10 p.m, operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad rescued a man identified as David O. from Tudun Amba area of Lafia after he was allegedly abducted by a commercial motorcyclist.
According to the police, the victim had boarded the motorcycle from Lafia en route to Assakio when the rider reportedly diverted into a bush path at Kireyi Village and forced him into the forest.
Police patrol teams, acting on intelligence, immediately launched a search operation and located the victim inside the bush.
The suspect, however, fled the scene before the arrival of operatives. The victim told police he had been taken to a kidnappers’ hideout and managed to escape shortly before the rescue team arrived.
In a related development, operatives attached to the Gitata Division arrested one Jamilu Salisu, a resident of Ditsenma in Katsina State, for allegedly abducting a 14-year-old Junior Secondary School 2 student of UBE Gitata.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect reportedly seized the student beside a mosque in Gitata and took him into a nearby forest. The police said they received information from a good Samaritan who spotted the suspect heading towards a riverbank with the victim.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, officers mobilised to the area, arrested the suspect, and rescued the student. One accomplice reportedly escaped and is currently at large.
Confirming the incidents, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspect and a comprehensive investigation into both cases.
