The Oyo State Police Command has begun a manhunt for a 29-year-old man, Quadri Mohammed, who is suspected of killing his 26-year-old girlfriend, Precious Mogaji, in Ibadan.
The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement noting that the police had commenced an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
Ayanlade said the incident was reported to the police by a concerned resident who found the victim lying motionless at the entrance of her boyfriend’s apartment.
He explained that the report was made at about 12:05 a.m., prompting officers from the Ojoo Division, including the patrol team and the incident duty officer, to immediately visit the scene.
According to the police spokesperson, the victim’s body was discovered lying on the floor at the doorway of the suspect’s room when officers arrived.
“The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged killing of a 26-year-old woman identified as Precious Mogaji,” Ayanlade stated.
He clarified that the incident occurred in the Oguntula area of Ojoo in Ibadan and not in Akobo, as earlier suggested in some media reports.
Ayanlade noted that reports circulating online claiming the incident took place in Akobo and involved a husband attempting to place his wife’s body in a vehicle were inaccurate.
Police officers documented the scene and carried out a preliminary examination of the body in line with investigative procedures before taking photographs for evidence.
The body was later moved to a hospital where it was deposited in a morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
During the course of the investigation, the police discovered that the suspect, Quadri Mohammed, had fled and his whereabouts remain unknown.
Ayanlade said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the suspect while the investigation continues.
The police urged members of the public with relevant information that could assist in locating the suspect to report to the nearest police station or contact the Oyo State Police Command.
