Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), the Joint Task Force North-West, have sustained aggressive military pressure on terrorist elements across the region, recording fresh successes in a series of coordinated offensives carried out between January 21 and 22, 2026.
In a statement issued late Thursday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi, he said the troops demonstrated “remarkable responsiveness” in recent operations that resulted in the neutralisation of terrorists and the recovery of several weapons.
According to the statement, troops of 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, working with Department of State Services (DSS) assets on a fighting patrol, engaged terrorists in Gundumi Village, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State. During the encounter, the troops neutralised one of the terrorists, while others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.
“The troops recovered six AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles,” Adewusi said.
In a related operation, troops from 1 Brigade, operating alongside the Headquarters JTF OPFY Mobile Strike Team, acted swiftly on credible intelligence indicating that injured terrorists were receiving treatment in Bingi Forest.
“The troops discovered and destroyed a makeshift medical facility belonging to the terrorists, dealing a significant blow to their support system and showcasing the troops’ effective operational response,” Adewusi added.
Captain Adewusi noted that the continued string of successful operations reflected the unwavering determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to decisively degrade terrorist networks and restore lasting peace and security across the North-West.
