Niger Tornadoes endured a disappointing Monday’s evening in Umuahia, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against Abia Warriors in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash.
Despite a late surge, the visitors were unable to overturn the deficit.
The match began ominously for the “Ikon Allah Boys” as S. Lawal put Abia Warriors ahead in just the 7th minute, sending the home crowd into raptures. Niger Tornadoes struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, heading into the break a goal down.
The second half saw Abia Warriors extend their lead further in the 65th minute, seemingly putting the game beyond reach.
However, Niger Tornadoes showed resilience, and J. Godfrey pulled a goal back in the 81st minute, offering a glimmer of hope.
Despite a spirited effort in the closing stages, the equaliser eluded them, and the match concluded with Abia Warriors securing a 2-1 victory. This result will undoubtedly leave Niger Tornadoes reflecting on what might have been as they look to bounce back in their next fixture.
