1. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Friday, dared the Rivers State Government to again deny approval for the use of the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, for a Renewed Hope Family rally, vowing to forcefully gain access to the facility if that happens. Wike said the organisers had applied to use the stadium for Friday’s event but were denied approval by the state government.

2. The Federal High Court in Ibadan on Friday nullified the Peoples Democratic Party National Convention held on November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The court also barred Kabiru Turaki and others from presenting themselves as national officers of the party, dealing a significant blow to the faction that emerged from the convention.

3. Two human rights activists, Hassan Taiwo, popularly known as Soweto, and Zikora Ibeh, have accused the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Olohundare, of assault and torture during anti-demolition protests held in parts of the state. They alleged that the police commissioner and his men assaulted him repeatedly before dragging him to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, following his arrest.

4. Troops of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under the Joint Task Force South East as part of Operation UDO KA, have successfully rescued a kidnapped clergyman, Reverend Johnson Onugwu, following a swift, intelligence-driven operation in Enugu State.

5. The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo state, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, said that no fewer than 15 students of the institution have been expelled for sex video offence. Aremu said that they would face rigorous lectures, demanding lifelines, sleepless nights of study, the pressure of examinations and the need to balance intellectual pursuits with personal development.

6. Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the African Democratic Congress, ADC. Duke was formally registered as a member of the ADC in Ward 5, Calabar Municipality, where he also received his membership card amid cheers from supporters.

7. A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said those thinking the Northern Nigeria would not vote to re-elect President Bola Tinubu in 2027 were making “a big mistake.” According to him, there is no better candidate to govern Nigeria beyond 2027 from the Southern Nigeria than Tinubu.

8. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has applied to the National Industrial Court for an order to commit striking workers of the territory to prison over their alleged disobedience of a court directive. The minister, through his counsel, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, obtained form 48 for consequences of disobedience of court order, which would be served on the striking workers.

9. The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command has rescued two suspected “one chance” robbery operators from a mob attack in Abuja, following a swift response to a distress call. According to the police, the incident occurred on January 29, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m., when officers at the Utako Police Division received information that an angry crowd had apprehended and was assaulting two suspected criminals.

10. Detained actress, Angela Okorie, got a reprieve on Friday as a Federal High Court in Abuja granted her bail at N5million and a surety in the same amount. Justice Emeka Nwite had on January 28 ordered her remand to Suleja prison in Niger State following her arraignment on charges of criminal defamation and cyberstalking.
