The Federal Government has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering Nigerian postgraduate students opportunities to study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
Confirming the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, wrote: “FG has announced the commencement of applications for 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarships overseas.”
According to the PTDF, the scheme targets MSc and PhD candidates in oil and gas-related disciplines, covering tuition, return flights, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable. “The 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships provide access to world-class training, research facilities, and global expertise, while developing indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector,” the agency stated.
For PhD applicants in the UK, the programme will adopt a split-site model, allowing research to be conducted both at the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, and partner universities such as Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and University of Portsmouth.

The PTDF emphasised that the scholarships are highly competitive: “Only candidates who demonstrate outstanding merit and suitability will be considered.” Applicants will be assessed based on academic records, research proposals, professional memberships, and the relevance of their studies to the oil and gas industry.
Eligibility requirements include a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) or Second Class Upper (2.1) for MSc applicants, completion of NYSC, computer literacy, and five O’Level credits including English and Mathematics. PhD candidates must also submit a five-page research proposal outlining objectives, methodology, and data collection approaches.
The agency warned: “All applicants must ensure their National Identity Number (NIN) is verified prior to application, and multiple applications or submission of falsified documents will result in automatic disqualification.”
Applications are to be submitted online at scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng for approved programmes at PTDF partner institutions. The deadline is February 27, 2026.
