Military foils planned militia attacks on Taraba communities

Tensions in parts of southern Taraba State have been reportedly eased following decisive military operations that reportedly thwarted planned attacks by armed militias on vulnerable communities.

Security sources confirmed that heavily armed troops, including personnel from the 93 Battalion stationed at Ada Barracks, were deployed to the troubled areas.

The special forces, working in coordination with other units, carried out targeted offensives, storming suspected militia hideouts and engaging hostile elements.

Residents who spoke with our reporter described the operation as swift and effective, noting that several militia members were neutralized during the raids.

According to local accounts, the presence of troops has significantly restored calm, with security forces maintaining dominance across previously threatened communities.

Community stakeholders have widely commended the intervention. A stakeholders from.the area, Justine Tyopuusu, expressed satisfaction with the response, stating that residents of Chanchanji and surrounding areas are relieved by the military’s prompt action in preventing attacks on Tiv communities.

He also praised the efforts of Agbu Kefas, noting that ongoing security measures are helping to restore confidence among farmers preparing for the rainy season. “We are hopeful that the current response will be sustained,” he said.

Similarly, the President General of the Tiv Cultural and Social Association in Taraba, James Bakah, applauded both the state government and Bola Ahmed Tinubu for authorizing the deployment of troops.

He described the intervention as timely, adding that security forces have not only reinforced protection but actively dismantled militia threats.

“We are grateful that our concerns have been heard. The actions taken have gone a long way in frustrating the plans of these militias,” Bakah stated,

Bakah and some of lieutenant urged authorities to maintain momentum in the operation.

Echoing these sentiments, Acting Clan Head of Mbatyula in Chanchanji ward, Zaki Terfa Peter Suleagbough, lauded the professionalism and dedication of the deployed troops. He stressed that without their presence, the situation could have deteriorated significantly.

Stakeholders across the region are now calling for sustained military presence until all militia activities are fully eradicated, emphasizing that continued security will be crucial in rebuilding trust and ensuring long-term peace in southern Taraba.
