Leads United Sign Remo Stars Defender, Ngenge

Published:

English Premier League club, Leads United have officially confirmed the acquisition of promising Nigerian defender Leonard Ngenge. The highly-rated 18-year-old centre-back makes the significant move from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars, penning a contract that will see him remain at Elland Road until the culmination of the 2026/27 season.

This transfer marks an exciting new chapter for both the player and the West Yorkshire club, as they look to bolster their defensive options with young, emerging talent.

Ngenge’s journey to the Premier League has been a rapid one. He only joined Remo Stars at the commencement of the current season, having previously played for Ikorodu City. Despite his relatively short spell with the “Sky Blue Stars,” Ngenge quickly made an impression, featuring in seven competitive matches across all competitions. His performances evidently caught the eye of Leeds United scouts, who have a reputation for identifying and developing promising players from around the globe.

Beyond his club exploits, Ngenge has also gained valuable international experience. He was a key member of Nigeria’s squad that participated in the 2024 African Nations Championship. This prestigious tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, provided Ngenge with a platform to showcase his abilities on a continental stage.

During the competition, he earned two caps for the “home-based Super Eagles,” demonstrating his potential to perform at a higher level. This international exposure, coupled with his strong domestic form, undoubtedly played a role in Leeds United’s decision to bring him to the Premier League.

The club will be hoping Ngenge can swiftly adapt to the rigours of English football and contribute to their ambitions in the coming seasons.
