The Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority, LASISMA, is set to demolish houses under high-tension cables in Alagbado/Oke-Odo along the AIT road corridor of the state.
A statement by the Lagos State government on Tuesday, said officials of the Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority (LASISMA), moved into the Alagbado/Oke-Odo axis to address serious physical planning infractions, specifically targeting structures built directly under or dangerously close to high-tension power lines.
The operation was carried out following direct orders from the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Olumide Oluyinka, as part of a state-wide push to restore urban sanity and prevent avoidable disasters.
Leading the exercise on behalf of the General Manager, TPL Daisi Oso, was TPL Emmanuel Seyi Ogunyemi.
Alongside his team, Ogunyemi oversaw the serving of contravention notices to occupants and the physical marking of buildings found to be encroaching under the high-tension.
The atmosphere during the exercise was one of serious engagement, as property owners were pointedly directed to move their buildings away from the hazardous corridor. Officials maintained that the move was not just about bureaucracy, but about the preservation of human life.
According to the team, the action is a necessary step to safeguard lives and property, reduce environmental hazards, and ensure that residents strictly follow the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2019 (as amended).
Speaking during the visit, TPL Ogunyemi reiterated the Agency’s commitment to proactive monitoring and enforcement. He warned of the dangers inherent in ignoring these setbacks.
“Structures built under or too close to high tension lines pose serious safety risks to residents and the wider community,” Ogunyemi said.
To ensure the sustainability of the exercise, the LASISMA team extended their mission to the leadership of the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
The team held a successful discussion with the LCDA Chairman, Abiodun Jimoh Ejigbadero. The meeting concentrated on the need enhance teamwork between state and local authorities to encourage proper land use and foster sustainable growth in the community
Ejigbadero, welcoming the initiative, pledged his administration’s full cooperation to ensure the area does not become a slum of illegal structures.
“Our administration is ready to work closely with LASISMA and other relevant agencies to ensure orderly development and Urban aesthetics across the LCDA,” Ejigbadero stated.
The enforcement exercise forms part of LASISMA’s ongoing efforts to enforce planning standards across all informal urban and incidental open spaces in Lagos. With the ultimate aim of ensuring safety, order, and visual appeal, the government is working to reshape the city for the benefit of all residents
