The mother of Umar Auwal, the suspected serial killer arrested in. Kano for allegedly killing his aunt and her six children. over a family inheritance, has joined the calls for her son to be executed with immediate effect.
Umar was arrested alongside three other suspects in the gruesome murders of the family at Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano metropolis on Saturday and while speaking in an interview on Freedom Radio on Monday, his father, Malam Auwal, called on authorities to swiftly punish his son without delay, saying that keeping him and feeding him with tax payers’ money would be a waste.
Toeing the same line, the mother who was also. interviewed by Freedom Radio on Tuesday, said her son does not deserve any mercy over the atrocities he committed.
“Yes, Umar is my son. I gave birth to him and we tried our best to lead him in the right path but you can only give birth to a child but you can’t give birth to his character,” she said in emotion laden voice.
She said she was devastated by the magnitude of the crime her son allegedly committed and expressed profound sympathy for the victims’ relatives while stressing that justice must prevail, regardless of family ties, describing the alleged act as unforgivable.
“If my son committed this terrible crime, I do not want him protected because he is my child. Let the law judge him quickly, and if he is guilty, he should face the full punishment,” she said.
She noted that the gruesome incident will live with the family and people will be pointing accusing fingers at them and such stigma will be hard to wipe away.
