The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man and two other suspects in connection with the brutal killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano metropolis.
The tragic murder which took place on Friday, had thrown the state into a state of panic as the woman and her children were killed in their house leading the state Governor, Abba Yusuf, mandating the police to fish out the killers of the family
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, also gave the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the marching orders to capture the perpetrators of the heinous crime which yielded fruit with the arrest of Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters, who happens to be the woman’s nephew and the suspected mastermind of the killings.
In a statement on Sunday, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, named other suspects arrested as Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as Wawo, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, adding that the suspects had made confessional statements linking himself and his associates to the crime.
The police spokesman said they were arrested during a sting operation conducted between 10:00pm on January 17 and 4:00am on January 18, 2026.
“The main suspect, Umar Auwalu, who is a nephew of the deceased woman, confessed to leading the group and taking part in the killing,” Kiyawa said.

“He also admitted that they were involved in other attacks, including the killing of two housewives in Tudun Yola area of Kano.
“Items recovered from the suspects include blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club, some cash, and other weapons.
“The victims were found dead on January 17, 2026, at their residence in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters and their arrests followed an intelligence-led operation ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, which enabled operatives to track down the suspects within 24 hours of the incident.
“Umar Auwalu of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters, was apprehended during a coordinated overnight operation carried out between late Saturday and early Sunday. Two other suspects were also arrested in connection with the case. They are Isyaku Yakubu, 40, also known as “Chebe,” from Sagagi Quarters, and Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21, popularly called “Wawo,” from Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters.”
Kiyawa described Auwalu as a “family insider,” noting that investigations revealed he was closely related to the deceased woman and further disclosed that during interrogation, Auwalu admitted involvement in other violent crimes in the state.
