Published:

The Jigawa State Government has warned against the abuse of its free treatment programme for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

This was contained in a statement issued by the Technical Adviser on Health, Isa Muhammad Surajo, who stressed on the need to protect the integrity of the programme to guarantee seamless and quality service delivery.

He warned all health officials, hospital managements and community leaders to ensure that only eligible beneficiaries access the services.

He said  this directive follows the introduction of the  health initiative by the administration of Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi,  aimed at easing the burden of long-term illnesses on vulnerable residents across the state.

Mr. Isah said under the programme, patients diagnosed with Diabetes, Hypertension and Sickle Cell Disease are entitled to free medical care as both outpatients and inpatients.

He explained that the package includes comprehensive services such as laboratory investigations, radiological examinations including X-rays and ultrasounds, provision of essential medications, and physiotherapy.

He noted that the free services are being provided in selected public health facilities across the state. These include General Hospitals in Dutse, Hadejia, Gumel, Kazaure, Ringim, Birnin Kudu, Jahun, Babura, Kafin Hausa and Birniwa, as well as Bulangu and Gwaram Cottage Hospitals.

According to the statement “All Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants in the health sector, hospital management teams and host communities are hereby directed to ensure that this privilege is not abused by non-beneficiaries.”

The free treatment is aimed at expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare for residents, particularly those living with chronic illnesses.
