Former Media Aide to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has insisted that there is no targeted Christian persecution in Nigeria.
Ahmad said what Nigeria is struggling with is widespread insecurity that affects both Christians and Muslims.
He made the remark while reacting to a meeting between the United States Congressman, Riley Moore, and Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State.
Moore, in a post on X said he was committed to working with Nigerian government to address the issues of insecurity and economic challenges.
After the meeting with Mutfwang, he wrote: “It was an honor to meet with the Governor of Plateau State in Nigeria, @CalebMutfwang, yesterday.
“We had a meaningful and productive conversation about deepening the ties between our two countries.
“I remain committed to working with the Nigerian government in coordination and cooperation to address these security and economic challenges, especially the persecution our Christian brothers and sisters face.
“God bless you, Governor, for what you do to protect Christians and other vulnerable populations in the Middle Belt.”
Reacting, Ahmad wrote on X: “You may still choose not to accept it, Rep. Moore, but the reality remains that there is no targeted persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
“What the country has been grappling with is widespread insecurity that affects everyone, Christians, Muslims and others alike.
“The government has continued to take steps to address the challenges and to protect all citizens without discrimination.”
