Imo PDP dismisses reports of some members defecting to APC

Published:

The Imo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has debunked a newspaper report alleging that PDP members in the party in the state are emptying into APC because of Governor Hope Uzodinma’s performance.

The party, in a statement signed by its Spokesperson, Mr Lancelot Obiaku, denied the claimed mass defection of its members into the ruling APC, noting that such claims emanated from few people he described as insignificantly stranded and irrelevant politicians who want to use the party’s prestigious name to attract attention to themselves in their gullible quest to earn stomach infrastructure.

“They are transactional, mercantile interlopers and moles already rejected by the PDP. Our genuine members have remained loyal and committed, across the 305 wards and 27 LGAs of the State. The party’s structure is standing firm without leadership tussles or internal discord,” Obiaku stated.

The party cautioned the APC in the state to beware of those it described as empty politicians who come to them now with enticing words, as they are only after their stomachs.

The PDP Spokesperson, hinted that no true PDP member would otherwise join the APC on what he termed fictional premise of Uzodinma’s performance, despite poverty, insecurity, and rural infrastructural decay which according to him, characterized the APC regime in the state, and the attendant public resentment against it.

“Categorically, the said defectors were never committed members of the PDP but were mercantile interlopers and moles who easily sold out to other parties while pretending to mean well for the party.

“Unfortunately for them, after a failed attempt during the 2024 congresses to hijack the party’s structure in a few LGAs and wards with the intent to sell it to their paymasters, they were left stranded in the political wilderness, licking their wounds after being roundly conquered.”the statement added.

The PDP claimed that those defectors seized to be genuine members of the party after their secret ploy to sell out the party was discovered and since then were being kept in the cooler.

“Therefore, what happened was neither a loss to the party nor a defection from it; rather, it was a seal of liberation the party secured from their official exits. This is the final piece in Imo PDP’s hard-won rebirth.

Imo PDP also cautioned that while people have their right to freedom of association, such individuals wishing to identify with any political platform, no matter how unpopular, should do so without tagging the party to it.

Obiaku following the development, asserted that the Imo PDP remains strong, prepared, and marching forward as the only party with undeniable and irresistible spread in the nooks and crannies of the state.

“The recent Imo PDP Women Summit proved this fact beyond reasonable doubt, as thousands of women organically and ebulliently attended the function.

The party is therefore focused on upcoming programmes in the build-up to its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

” Imo PDP is earnestly getting set to take a strong contingent of eligible delegates to the long-awaited, all-inclusive National Convention in Abuja on March 29 and 30, 2026,”the statement concluded.
