Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo Groups Hail Eyesan’s Appointment, Thank Tinubu

Published:

Ethnic groups from the Niger Delta have welcomed the appointment of Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.

The Itsekiri Liberation Frontiers, Ijaw Liberation Frontiers and Urhobo Liberation Frontiers said the appointment reflected Eyesan’s dedication, competence and long-standing contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

In a joint statement yesterday, leaders of the three ethnic blocs expressed satisfaction with the decision, describing it as a response to the yearnings of stakeholders in the region.

The statement was signed by the Bolowie of Gbaramatu Ijaw, Chief Dr W.O. Okirika, CON; Suru Popo Itsekiri; Enyiagho Besidone; Chief E.O. Okotie, JP, Urhobo; and the Ovie of Origin Kingdom, HRH A.K. Osawota.

The groups thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they described as his willingness to listen to agitations from the Niger Delta on the need to re-engage Eyesan in the oil and gas industry.

“We are thrilled to see Mrs Eyesan’s talents recognised and rewarded. Her dedication, expertise and commitment to excellence make her an asset to any organisation,” the statement read.

They said Eyesan’s wealth of experience would strengthen regulation in the upstream sector and enhance confidence among industry operators.

The groups also called on Nigerians, particularly stakeholders in the petroleum industry, to support the new NUPRC chief as she assumes office.

They expressed confidence that Eyesan would justify the trust reposed in her and deliver an impactful tenure at the commission.
