Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are struggling with soaring temperatures and persistent electricity outages, describing the situation as unbearable and making restful sleep nearly impossible.

A cross-section of residents in communities such as Kubwa, Orozo, and Kuje told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that irregular power supply has lasted for months, forcing families to endure long, hot nights without fans, air conditioners, or other cooling devices.

Ms. Edna Awe of Kubwa said the unstable electricity has left her exhausted. “I am appealing to authorities concerned with power supply to address this pathetic situation,” she said, urging regulatory agencies to monitor the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to ensure value for consumers.

Mr. Samuel Odey, also from Kubwa, said the lack of stable power disrupts daily life, making basic tasks and relaxation difficult. He called the situation a wake-up call for the government and power sector stakeholders.

Residents in Orozo and Kuje reported similar challenges. Mrs. Vivian Olotu said families sometimes go two to three days without electricity, while Mr. Udo Asuquo said the outages are affecting both his health and small business. Mrs. Angela Pam said some family members sleep in corridors late into the night to find relief, exposing them to security risks.

The AEDC has blamed the outages on nationwide low power generation. Despite this, residents continue to call for swift and sustainable solutions to ease their hardship.
