Government blames ‘terrorist cells’ for attack in Woro village, one of country’s deadliest in recent months
More than 160 people have been killed in a village in western Nigeria in the country’s deadliest armed assault so far this year, as communities reel from repeated, widespread acts of violence perpetrated by armed gangs and jihadists.
Aid officials said the death toll from Tuesday’s attack in Woro in Kwara state had risen from about 35 overnight to at least 162 by Wednesday afternoon, as more bodies were discovered.
