Gunmen have attacked a drinking bar in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, killing one person and abducted the President of Omoku Youth Council, Ifeanyi Azuazua.
The dead victim, identified as Chigozie Oluwu, was the civilian security aide to Azuazua, who was elected the youth president about two months ago.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday night at a bar along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road in Omoku.
Eyewitnesses said Azuazua seemed to be the main target of the gunmen, as his whereabouts remained unknown as at the time of this report.
Security operatives were later seen retrieving the corpse of the deceased from the scene.
Residents feared the incident could trigger reprisals and counter-reprisals in the area, prompting calls for increased security presence to curb rising threats in the city.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command was yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
