Governor Alex Otti has celebrated Nigeria’s rising gymnastics star, Stephanie Onusiriuka, alongside the Nigeria women’s national basketball team, in recognition of their outstanding achievements and contributions to national pride.
The reception highlighted the Abia State Government’s commitment to supporting excellence in sports and encouraging young talents who continue to place Nigeria on the global map.
At just 15, Stephanie Onusiriuka has already carved a remarkable niche for herself in Nigerian sports.
A multiple gold medalist at the Youth Games, National Sports Festival, and the African Championships in Pretoria, South Africa, her journey into gymnastics began at the tender age of two.
What started as childhood passion has grown into a career defined by discipline, resilience, and relentless hard work.
Her most recent feat came at the National Youth Games Asaba 2025, where she emerged as Nigeria’s Best All-Round Gymnast, clinching several gold medals and reaffirming her position as one of the country’s brightest young athletes. With each performance, she continues to raise the Nigerian flag high, proving that age is no limitation to greatness.
Beyond her personal accomplishments, Stephanie is also investing in the future of the sport. She recently launched a Gymnastics School Tour in Abia State, visiting Ibeku High School and Icon Builders International School to inspire students and promote grassroots development.
The initiative led to the discovery of budding talents who are now set to be nurtured into future champions.
Governor Otti commended both Stephanie and the Afrobasket Female Team for their dedication, describing their successes as a source of inspiration to young Nigerians.
The basketball team has equally earned continental and international recognition, reinforcing Nigeria’s strength in women’s sports.
Stephanie, who trains both in London and Nigeria, represents a new generation of Nigerian athletes combining global exposure with local pride. Her story stands as a testament to what discipline, consistency, and belief can achieve.
As Abia celebrates its champions, the message is clear: with the right support and determination, Nigerian youths can compete — and excel — on any stage in the world.
