The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 18 people lost their lives in a fatal road crash that occurred on Tuesday in Dutse local government area of Jigawa State.
In a statement issued in Dutse, the FRSC spokesperson in the State, Corps Route Commander Yahaya Ibrahim, said the accident involved two Volkswagen Golf cars and a tipper truck. He attributed the crash to excessive speeding, a tyre burst and loss of control.
According to Ibrahim, the incident occurred at about 12:15 p.m. at Danmasara village along the Dutse–Kwanar Huguma Road. He disclosed that 20 people were involved in the crash, including children.
“Eighteen persons lost their lives in the accident, while the driver of the tipper and his assistant sustained injuries,” he said.
Ibrahim added that the injured victims, as well as the corpses, were evacuated by FRSC rescue officials and taken to Dutse General Hospital.
The latest incident comes barely days after the FRSC confirmed another fatal crash in Jigawa State. On December 25, 11 persons were killed while 12 others sustained injuries in a lone accident involving a Volkswagen car along the Ringim–Sankara–Beguwa Road in Ringim local government area of the State.
The Christmas Day crash was also attributed to excessive speeding and a tyre burst.
