Ex-presidential aide Ahmad questions inclusion of Kwankwaso in proposed US sanctions

Published:

Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has reacted to reports that some United States lawmakers are proposing sanctions against Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Ahmad said he was surprised to see Kwankwaso’s name mentioned in the proposal.

“I am not holding a brief for Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, but I genuinely wonder how his name appeared there,” he wrote.

Ahmad said that, from his personal experience, Kwankwaso has always spoken strongly against terrorism.

“All the time I have known him and throughout his service as Governor, Minister of Defence, Senator and now as a political leader, he has consistently taken a firm stance against terrorism and terrorists in all forms,” he added.

Recall that US lawmakers, including Riley Moore and Chris Smith, introduced a bill entitled the Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026.

The proposed bill reportedly recommends targeted sanctions, visa bans, and asset freezes on Kwankwaso and some Fulani herder groups.
