Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), reportedly collapsed on Tuesday near his office in Abuja.
The incident was confirmed by his media aide, Emmanuel Nweke, who said Maina lost consciousness after falling while trying to enter the office premises.
Nweke explained that Maina lost his footing on the staircase, fell, and hit his head, an incident he attributed to complications arising from a long-standing knee injury that had not been treated.
“The incident occurred following complications arising from an untreated knee injury, which caused him to lose balance and fall, resulting in his head hitting the staircase,” the statement reads.
According to the aide, medical personnel who were present at the scene immediately administered first aid before Maina was transported to a private hospital in Abuja for further treatment.
“Dr Maina is currently receiving close medical care and remains under observation.
Following preliminary medical assessment, one of the attending doctors advised that arrangements be considered for an air ambulance medical evacuation should his condition not stabilise within a short period.
“His family and medical team are closely monitoring his progress. The family appeals to the public for prayers, understanding, and respect for privacy at this critical time.”
It was reported earlier by DAILY POST that Maina was recently freed from the Kuje Correctional Centre after serving a jail sentence stemming from his conviction over pension-related fraud.
He was found guilty of money laundering offenses involving sums of N2 billion at a Federal High Court in Abuja, in November 2021.
