Equities market consolidates gains as investors pocket N469bn in five hours

Investors in the Nigerian equities market gained N469bn at the close of trading on Tuesday.

This followed the surge in the share prices of stocks such as Meyer, Jaiz Bank, and ABC Transport, among others, on the trading floor.

The benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) surged to 159,951.08 points from the 159,218.22 points recorded the previous trading day.

After five hours of trading at the capital market, the equity capitalisation surged to N102.2 trillion from N101.8 trillion posted by the bourse on Monday.

The market breadth was flat with 65 stocks advancing, 21 stocks declining, and 60 stocks remaining unchanged in 54,212 deals.

A total of 758,980,528 shares were traded, valued at N19.8 billion.

Meyer, Jaiz Bank, and ABC Transport led the gainers’ chart with 10%, 10% and 9.98% growth in share prices, respectively, to close at N14.30, N5.28, and N4.96 per share, up from the previous N13.00, N4.80, and N4.51 per share.

Aluminium Extrusion, Learn Africa and Oando led other price decliners with a 9.96%, 9.16%, and 7.69% dip each in share price to close at N21.70, N5.95, and N40.80 per share, down from the previous N24.10, N6.55, and N44.20 per share

On the volume index, Linkage Assurance led trading with 51 million shares in 175 deals, followed by Sterling Bank, which traded 49 million shares in 609 deals.

Access Holding Plc traded 48 million shares in 2,884 deals.

On the value index, Guaranty Trust Holding Co traded stocks valued at N2 billion in 2,599 deals, followed by Aradel, which traded equities worth N1.5 billion in 1,344 deals.

Zenith Bank traded shares valued at N1.3 billion in 2, 270 deals.
