Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has said that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is the only coach who could turn down the chance to manage the Red Devils.
This he said after the Red Devils’ board chose to fire their manager, Ruben Amorim, on Monday.
Amorim’s dismissal was announced on Monday, hours after he led the Red Devils to a 1-1 tie with Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday.
Ferdinand, who won the Premier League six times during his playing career, is sure there will be a lot of interest in the Red Devils coaching position.
He said Guardiola is the only Premier League manager who would not consider an offer from United.
Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel that Unai Emery would definitely take the opportunity if it came up.
“Pep Guardiola is the only manager in the league that I think would just sit there and say, “I’m happy where I am, I’m content and I don’t need anything else.”
When someone suggested that Mikel Arteta might turn down a move to United too, Ferdinand said, “No, I don’t buy it, I don’t buy it at all.
“He’s never going to say it, he wouldn’t say it out loud. But I’m telling you, Mikel Arteta would sit there and think about it.”
