Environment Ministry’s New Perm Sec Stresses Collaboration

Published:

Federal Ministry of Environment has received a new administrative head following the assumption of duty by its newly deployed permanent secretary, Salihu Aminu Usman, who has pledged to strengthen collaboration across the country’s environmental governance structure.

At a brief handover ceremony at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, Usman stressed that addressing Nigeria’s environmental challenges requires stronger cooperation among staff, agencies and key stakeholders in the sector.

He noted that the ministry cannot operate in isolation to effectively tackle environmental protection and sustainable development, adding that teamwork and shared responsibility remain critical to achieving meaningful impact.

The new permanent secretary also assured staff of his commitment to consolidating the achievements of his predecessor while focusing on staff development, professionalism and improved welfare across departments and agencies under the ministry.

Earlier in his remarks, the outgoing permanent secretary, Mahmud Adam Kambari, described the ministry as one endowed with experienced and capable personnel, urging them to extend the same cooperation and support he enjoyed to his successor.

Kambari expressed appreciation to the ministry’s management and staff for their loyalty and dedication during his tenure, describing them as competent, reliable, and hardworking professionals.

He also expressed confidence in Usman’s leadership capacity, describing the incoming Permanent Secretary as a man of high pedigree and admirable character who would build on the progress already made in the ministry.

Kambari further commended the leadership of the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, whom he described as a mentor and outstanding leader, noting that he thoroughly enjoyed working under his guidance.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of the ministry’s management and staff, the Director of Special Duties, Mrs Adenopo, expressed appreciation to Kambari for his mentorship, professionalism and dedication, noting that his tenure laid a solid foundation for the continued growth of the ministry.

She also welcomed Usman to the ministry, assuring him of the staff’s full cooperation, loyalty, and commitment as he begins steering the ministry towards greater achievements in Nigeria’s environmental sector.
