The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has met with the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Udeh, to explore collaboration aimed at addressing energy and technological needs within Nigeria’s defence sector.

The meeting, held at Ship House in Abuja, focused on strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and agencies under the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology to advance research, innovation, and technological development in support of national security.

Speaking during the courtesy visit, Gen. Musa stressed the need for stronger synergy among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), noting that innovation and indigenous technological development are essential to addressing national challenges.

He highlighted the importance of reliable energy supply for defence operations, explaining that several military barracks across the country face electricity challenges. According to him, collaboration with agencies such as the Energy Commission of Nigeria could help identify sustainable power solutions for military facilities.

“Stable energy supply is essential for operational efficiency, improved living conditions for personnel, and the effective functioning of military institutions,” Musa said, adding that partnerships in the energy sector could support the development of alternative power solutions for defence establishments.

He reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to working with the science and technology community in areas such as research, innovation, capacity building, and energy development.

Earlier, Dr. Udeh, accompanied by heads of agencies under his ministry, expressed readiness to partner with the defence sector. Among the agencies represented were the National Space Research and Development Agency, the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi, and the Energy Commission of Nigeria.

The directors-general of the agencies outlined potential areas of collaboration and technological support that could benefit defence operations.

Both ministers agreed that stronger institutional partnerships would help harness Nigeria’s scientific potential and translate research outcomes into practical solutions for national development and security.

Officials present at the meeting included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, directors from both ministries, and other senior officers.
