Chairman of Odukpani Local Government Area in Cross River State, Hon Ukpong Asido, has suspended two aides over their involvement in what the council described as indecent and degrading social media videos.

The aides, Mr Kelvin Okon, a non-statutory special assistant to the chairman, and Mr Edet Okon, official personal assistant to the council secretary, were placed on indefinite suspension with effect from 9 February 2026.

A statement signed by the chairman on Tuesday said the suspension followed the aides’ participation in social media content considered unbecoming of public officers and contrary to the oath of office they swore to uphold.

The statement noted that the suspended aides have been stripped of all entitlements, including salaries, for the duration of the suspension.

According to the statement, the council became officially aware that the two aides were involved in social media videos described as indecent, degrading and inconsistent with acceptable conduct expected of public servants. It added that copies of the videos are in the custody of the council.

The chairman stated that the decision was taken in line with the Cross River State Government’s zero tolerance for irresponsible conduct among public servants.

The statement further directed the affected aides to hand over all official documents and government property in their possession to the office of the Secretary of the Council within 24 hours.

The council said relevant authorities have been notified of the development.
