Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle has expressed his desire to win the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) billed to be cohosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Chelle revealed that he had promised his parents to win the just-concluded AFCON in Morocco but is sorry to have failed on that target.
The Super Eagles were beaten by hosts Morocco in the semifinal after losing on penalties. They however went on to win the third place match against Egypt to win Bronze.
Chelle is already optimistic that the next edition of the tournament will be his’ for the taking.

“It’s pride. It’s a relief. I went to see my mom and dad, and told them I was coming back with the AFCON trophy. Mom, Dad, sorry, I’m only coming back with third place, but that’s already exceptional for me,” Chelle said in an interview with Canal + Sport Afrique.
“Thank you to this country for organising this AFCON so well. I had a lot of fun with my team. It was great. Thank you.
“It was extraordinary. And we’ll meet again in two years, and God willing, I’ll bring that trophy home.”
The Super Eagles were a goalscoring side, with 14 goals throughout the competition.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has also said the team will stick with Chelle despite their failure to bring the AFCON trophy home and missing the World Cup.
