BREAKING: Senegal Advances To 2025 AFCON Final With Narrow Win Against Egypt

Published:

In a thrilling 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash on Wednesday night, Senegal edged past Egypt with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a stunning long-range goal from Sadio Mané in the 78th minute.

The victory marks Senegal’s second final appearance in the last three editions of the tournament, reigniting hopes of securing their second AFCON title.

The match opened with both teams displaying strong defences, resulting in a goalless first half. Senegal’s attack, led by the dynamic duo of Mané and Pape Gueye, struggled to break through the disciplined Egyptian backline, which was marshalled by goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, who made several key saves.

As the second half progressed, Senegal intensified their attack. The decisive moment came when Mané, receiving the ball outside the box, unleashed a precise right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, leaving El Shenawy with little chance to respond.

Despite trailing, Egypt fought valiantly to equalise, with substitute Omar Marmoush coming close in the dying minutes. However, Senegal’s goalkeeper Édouard Mendy stood firm, making crucial saves to secure the clean sheet.

Senegal will face the winner of the other semi-final match between Nigeria and hosts Morocco later this Wednesday night.
