How to spot the fake Kiss Condom ⬇️

NAFDAC is notifying the public about the sale and distribution of fake Kiss Condoms in various Nigerian markets.

The information was received from the Marketing Authorisation Holder, DKT International Nigeria, a leading non-governmental organisation focused on contraceptive social marketing. Its mission is to provide Nigerians with affordable and safe options for family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention.

The Fake Kiss Condom has been reported to be found in Onitsha Market, Idumota Market, Trade Fair Market, and various markets in Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe, Enugu, and others.

Kiss Condom is a brand of male latex condoms designed for sexual protection, mainly to help prevent unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as HIV, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

How To Spot a Fake Kiss Condom Box and Pack

1. Box Pack (Front Side of the Box)

ORIGINAL:
•There are instructions on the lower part of the pack:
– Please read the instructions carefully
– Single-use only if reused, there might be an increased risk of failure or infection.

•Additional information on the lower part of the box pack:
– The device is a medical device
– MDSS GmbH Schiffgraben 41, 30175 Hannover Germany

•There is an image of a condom with the following statements written in English and French:
– Natural coloured unscented straight-walled, teat-ended, natural rubber latex condoms with non-spermicidal lubricant. 52 mm nominal width.

•Address – Plot 4, Block E. Isolo Industrial Layout, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway
•Storage and Caution Information included

FAKE:
•There is no additional information on the side of the box
•The box is darker in colour.
•The picture on the box is darker in colour.
•The inside of some of the boxes is plain white.
•No condom Image
•Address is wrong – 42, Montgomery Road, Yaba, Lagos
•The manufacturer’s address is incomplete
•No storage and caution information.

2. Condom Pack

ORIGINAL:
•The colour of the pack is light red
•Kiss is closely written on 6 lines

FAKE:
•The colour of the pack is darker than the original pack
•Kiss is loosely written on 5 lines. There is a lot of space between each line
•The condom strip is longer than the original.

3. Wallet – Outer

ORIGINAL:

•Lighter red pack
•Address is Oshodi-Apapa
•Manufacturer address
•Description beside image of condom: Natural colored, unscented, straight-walled, teat-ended, natural rubber latex condoms

•The condom is round in shape
•The condom has less lubrication than the original

Risk Statement
The use of fake condoms poses serious health risks due to poor quality, lack of sterilisation, and absence of regulation, leading to ineffective protection against pregnancy and STIs. Risks include breakage, infection, allergic reactions, and false security. To ensure safety, only genuine, quality-assured condoms from approved manufacturers should be used.

All NAFDAC Zonal Directors and State Coordinators have been directed to carry out surveillance and mop up the falsified product Kiss Condoms in various Nigerian markets within the zones and states.

Healthcare professionals and consumers are advised to report any suspicion of the sale of substandard and falsified medicines or medical devices to the nearest NAFDAC office, call 0800-162-3322 or send an email to sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng
