A fire broke out at Cake Hut Restaurant in Wuse 2, Abuja, early Thursday, reportedly sparked by objects thrown from outside during New Year celebrations, the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service said.
The blaze was quickly brought under control, and no injuries were recorded.
The Comptroller of the FCT Fire Service Command, Amiola Adebayo, told PUNCH Online that the service “received a distress call in the early hours of Thursday around 12:25 a.m”
He added that firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene. “Our men were quickly mobilised to the scene, and I was personally there,” Adebayo said.
Preliminary investigations showed the fire “was caused by an object thrown from outside the premises during New Year celebrations, which landed on a thatched roof inside the restaurant.”
Personnel from both the FCT Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service worked together to contain the blaze, with police officers assisting by clearing traffic to allow emergency vehicles access.
“With the combined efforts of the FCT Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service, and with the police assisting to clear the road, we were able to put the fire under control by about 1:20 a.m,” Adebayo stated.
