Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has finally clarified the origin of her famous nickname, “Omosexy,” revealing that the name came from a deeply personal gesture rather than the entertainment industry or her fan base.
Speaking during an interview on Naija FM on Monday, the screen icon addressed long-standing curiosity about how the nickname became associated with her public persona. Contrary to popular belief, she disclosed that neither fans nor colleagues coined the name.
According to Omotola, the credit belongs to her husband, Captain Matthew Ekeinde. She explained that the nickname emerged during a special moment in their marriage, long before it evolved into a widely recognised brand identity.
Recounting the story, the actress said her husband had gifted her a Lincoln Navigator at the time. To make the present even more personal, he customised the vehicle’s plate number with the name “Omosexy,” a move that would later spark public fascination.

During the lively exchange, the interviewer playfully asked whether the name was self-styled or given by admirers. Omotola responded candidly, saying, “Na my honey boy give me that name… he buy me one Lincoln Navigator that time… he put am for the plate number.”
What began as an affectionate nickname within her home soon gained traction beyond it. Fans and industry insiders picked up the name, and it gradually became synonymous with her glamorous screen presence and confident public image.
